Sasserine, Session 4

The Hammers and Lady Vanderboren eventually figured out that the metallic snake they had been fighting would retreat once the Vanderboren signet ring was shown to it. With the cobra out of the way, the party were free to explore the vault without interruption.

The Hammers discovered that one of the pillars was a secret door that concealed the treasure chamber. Unfortunately, they still had another puzzle to solve. There were carvings of 7 different creatures on the walls and an 8-pointed star with a red arm in the ceiling. They found that they could turn the arm of the star by turning the room's central pillar.

Eventually, they worked out the combination for the room's 'safe' and were able to uncover the Vanderboren treasure trove. However, close inspection of the vault's chests and coffers revealed that most of the room's items had already been plundered! Only one set of chest remained untouched. This one contained gold, IOU's owed to the family and a journal written in a strange language. The Hammers insisted on helping Lady Vanderboren move the items back to her manor for closer inspection.

Upon leaving Castle Teraknian, Lady Vanderboren asked the castle clerk if anyone had visited her family's vault. It seems that her estranged brother had been there a few times, but the clerk thought nothing of it. He had a signet ring and the proper identification. Hearing this, the Hammers offered to help Lavinia find her brother. Only Amalsuntha refused to join in on this errand....
