After Action Report: Sasserine Session 1

'Burn it! Burn it!' the woman with the scarred face screamed.

There was nothing for Raven to do but put an end to this woman's hysteria with a dagger between the ribs. Dead and unconscious bodies lay on the deck at Raven's feet, including Gray Masters....

The Sasserine Hammers-- Amalsuntha (H CLC), Gray Masters (H ROG), Althomas Mason (H WIZ) and Raven (H RGR w/gray wolf companion Teesh-Ka)-- began their adventuring career by accepting an assignment from young Lady Lavinia Vanderboren. After her parents' recent death in a shipboard fire, she inherited her family's estate-- and its debts. Lady Vanderboren has been trying to gain access to her family's vault, but can't find her father's signet ring which would allow her to enter. Is it aboard one of the family's ships, The Blue Nixie?

Lady Vanderboren hired the Hammers to discretely board the boat (it's been impounded by the harbormaster over unpaid mooring fees) and search for her father's ring. Perhaps he left aboard The Blue Nixie.

When the Hammers got to Pier 5, the boat was attached to a float about 100 feet offshore. It was obvious that there were some figures aboard, too. Amalsuntha hired a boat using the story that the group were going to spread the ashes of a lost companion into the sea.

As the party neared The Blue Nixie, they were able to row to the back side of the ship and board it surreptitiously. Unfortunately, Gray Masters and Raven were heard making noise on deck and the guards (thugs) ordered them off the boat. The two Hammers pretended to be drunk and approached the guards. When they were close enough, Gray attacked.

The three thugs had weapons trained on the young rogue the entire time and he was quickly cut down by a crossbow bolt and a rapier thrust. Raven had better luck in killing two of the guards immediately. As the thugs called for reinforcements, Amalsuntha and Althomas climbed over the rail and onto the deck.

Amalsuntha closed to melee with a couple of thugs and Raven fought off a third. That's when Soller Vark and a woman, Ketrana, arrived from closed quarters. Althomas managed to charm Soller (who appeared to be the group's leader) and create a temporary standoff. This action confused the thugs who, now leaderless and seeing the evidence of their fallen comrades, decided to jump ship and swim for shore to save themselves.

That left only Ketrana to deal with. The scarfaced woman began to shout to someone below decks to 'Burn it! Burn it!' Raven attacked and momentarily stopped the screaming....
