Two views of Légio
To help you visualize Légio, here are a couple of views of the city. First, the view from the northwest:
The gate in the foreground is the Pilgrim's Gate, the newest of the city's five gates. It was built to allow pilgrims easier access to the large church that abuts the western wall, St. Isidore.
The city is divided into 4 districts. Nobles live in courts inside the city walls. These courts have small farms, churches and occasionally monasteries. Craftsmen also live inside the walls. Merchants, farmers, foreigners and itinerant travelers tend to live outside of it. In the distance to the south, you can see the relatively new secondary wall. Merchants are this district's most common inhabitants. This neighborhood is also home to the city's market.
It also possible to make out the old Imperial amphitheater. It's a crumbling pile of stones now.
The view of the city from the southwest:
It's easier to see the secondary wall from this perspective. You can also see three of the original gates much better from here. The southern gate is called the King's Arch, because it used to be close to the Royal Palace. The Palace is now closer to North Gate. The eastern gate is called the Bishop's Gate, as it is next to the city's cathedral, St. Mary's.
