Re: Regional Map of Llion
Legio lies at the edge of a high plains region. A heavily-travelled pilgrim's road leads from the Francish lands in the North through the Kingdom of Castel to the East, through the capital Llionese capital and on to its final destination in the West, St. Iago.
The Asturan Mountains to the north that are anywhere from 1600 - 2000 meters in height. These sparsely-populated mountains are not heavily travelled except during the Summer when pilgrims travel from the north to continue their journey to St. Iago.
The Ancient Empire used to mine these mountains for gold and other natural resources. Rumor has it that there are plenty of minerals left in the region if anyone wanted to do this backbreaking work. In their day, the imperials used the barely-conquered locals as slave labor in the mines. These workers were called highlanders by the imperials, though they called themselves The People of the Rock. They shoveled enough of it. It's not clear what happened to this people. Some think that they live a secluded life in the high mountainous valleys while others think they adapted to life underground.
The region has been in the middle of a 5-year drought which has caused a variety of problems recently. The mountain lakes have receded, exposing ruins that have been buried for centuries. The lack of water has not allowed the mountain vegetation to grow very thick resulting in a high number of flash floods. The flooding has eroded even more lost settlements and the mountain villagers complain of demon and witch activity.
